FAQs

Are there any age restrictions to rent from you?

We would rather like to do business with clients who are 25 years and above because of our insurance coverage restrictions. Having said that, based on your circumstances, whenever we can, we strive to be accommodating.

In case you are below twenty-five, try checking with your insurance provider to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.

Are your roof top tents kids friendly?

Absolutely! Please note that with our rooftop campers you’ll have to climb a little ladder. If this is a concern, we also offer an extra camping tent with all of our packages which you can set up on the ground beside your camping vehicle. This can be more convenient for both you as well as your little ones.

What is the maximum capacity of your camping vehicles?

Our camper trucks fit three people maximum, though if there are more within your group, we do provide an extra camping tent, as well. With this, we can easily accommodate up to five people. All of our trucks have 5 seatbelts.

Are you offering surfboards?

Yes, we offer both surfboards and boogie boards as well as fins upon request for a small fee. Just tell us beforehand if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we get a guide book or a map with the greatest hiking trails and beaches to visit on Kauai?

Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to visit and go camping on Kauai.

Kauai Camping Guide & Details About Camping Permits

Can I visit any beach for camping?

You could go to any beach, however, you should only put up your camp in designated camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the usual procedure. We will provide you with a list of the greatest places to visit and to camp in. Please note that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or can we just go to designated camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?

No, wild camping is not permitted in Kauai. You may only go camping in designated areas with a current camping permit. The charge is around $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county parks, but private camping grounds may be a bit more. The good thing about these campsites is that you will have full access to facilities, such as showers, restrooms and picnic dining tables. Please note that if you opt to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Where can I park and sleep with a roof top tent truck?

  • Kōkeʻe State Park (need camping permit): Kokee Rd, Hwy 550, Kekaha, HI 96752
  • Sugi Grove Campground (need camping permit): Access from MohihiCamp 10 Road, starting 100 yards past Kōkeʻe State Park headquarters along Highway 550. Latitude 22.13 N, Longitude -159.622 W.

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping license prior to your journey. For most private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your licenses online and also on-the-spot in the designated office.

If you choose to stay at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you may obtain permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.

In advance, the charges are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders & cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping licenses prior to your arrival. You could also obtain them at the designated permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.

How much time does it take to obtain the camping permits?

Whether you choose to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite some time to get your permits. You might receive your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on the island; in-person you will get them on the spot.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
