Below are Some Commonly Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We try to work with customers who are 25 years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. Nevertheless, depending on your situation, whenever possible, we strive to be accommodating.
In case you are below 25 years, try contacting your insurer to find out whether you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.
Can you accommodate families who have children?
Certainly! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop campers you will need to climb one small ladder. If this is a concern, we provide an additional camping tent with each package which you can easily put up on the ground. This could be more convenient for you and also your little ones.
How many individuals can your camping trucks accommodate?
We are able to accommodate 3 individuals at most, though if there are more within your party, we do offer an extra camping tent, as well. With this, we are able to fit up to 5 individuals. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Absolutely yes, our company offers both surfboards & boogie boards and fins on request for a fee. Just inform us in advance if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we get a guide or a map with the nicest locations to explore on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to see and go camping on Kauai.
Best Spots For Camping Out On Kauai & Specifics About Camping Permits
Am I able to visit any beach front for camping?
You could go to any beach, but you can only put up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We will supply you with a list of the top places to explore and to camp in. Please remember that driving on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.
Are we permitted to camp in the wild or can we just visit official camping grounds? If so, what is the fee?
No, wild camping isn’t allowed in Kauai. You can only camp in specified areas with a valid camping permit. The charge is about $3 per night in the majority of Kauai county campgrounds, but private camp sites may be a bit more. One advantage of these campgrounds is that you will have total access to facilities, such as showers, washrooms & picnic tables. Please be aware that if you choose to go camping on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.
What camping grounds do you suggest with the rooftop tent?
- Kōkeʻe State Park (need camping permit): Kokee Rd, Hwy 550, Kekaha, HI 96752
- Sugi Grove Campground (need camping permit): Access from MohihiCamp 10 Road, starting 100 yards past Kōkeʻe State Park headquarters along Highway 550. Latitude 22.13 N, Longitude -159.622 W.
- YMCA of Kaua’i (camping without a permit but reservation is required): 4477 Nuhou St, Lihue, HI 96766

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?
It is a better to get your Kauai camping license prior to your arrival. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can get your licenses online and also in person in the respective office.
If you decide to camp at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you may ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Up-front, the charges are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are cashier’s checks and money orders. However, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping permits before your arrival. You can also obtain them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?
Whether you choose to go to a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to camp at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite some time to get your permits. You might obtain your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the various permit offices on the island; in-person you will get them right away.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
