Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any age restrictions to rent from you?
We would rather like to work with customers who are twenty-five years and above due to our insurance coverage restrictions. But, based on your circumstances, whenever we can, we strive to be accommodating.
If you are below 25 years, consider checking with your insurance company to determine if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.
Would you be able to accommodate families who have children?
Of course! Please note that with our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb one small ladder. If this sounds like an issue, we provide an additional camping tent with all of our packages which you may set up on the ground. This can be much more comfortable for you as well as your young children.
How many people can your camper trucks accommodate?
We could fit three people at most, although in case there are more in your party, we do provide an extra tent, too. With this, we can easily allow for about five people. All of our trucks have 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Absolutely yes, we provide surfboards and boogie boards as well as fins on request for a fee. Just let us know up-front if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we receive a guidebook or perhaps a map with the best places to visit on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to check out and go camping on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I go to any beach front to camp?
You could go to any beach, however, you can only put up your camp in official camping sites. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We’ll give you a list of the greatest locations to explore and also to camp in. Please remember that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Are we allowed to camp in the wild or can we just visit official camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in official areas with a current camping permit. The charge is around $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county parks, though private campgrounds may be a little more. One particular advantage of these campgrounds is that you have full access to amenities, including showers, restrooms and picnic tables. Please be aware that if you decide to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is a good idea to organize your Kauai camping permits before your arrival. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you can secure your licenses online and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you opt to camp at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you can obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Up-front, the fees are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this application are money orders & cashier’s checks. But you don’t necessarily have to book your camping licenses before your planned arrival. You may also get them at the designated permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
How much time does it take to get the camping permits?
If you decide to stay at a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to stay at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to get your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given immediately.
