Commonly Asked Questions
What is the minimum age for renting from you?
We try to work with clients who are 25 years and above due to our insurance coverage restrictions. On the other hand, depending on your needs, whenever possible, we strive to be flexible.
If you are below 25 years, try checking in with your insurance company to find out whether you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.
Would you be able to accommodate adults with children?
Yes! Please note that with our rooftop campers you would need to climb one small ladder. If this is a problem, we also offer an additional tent with all of our packages which you could set up on the ground. This can be much more comfortable for you and also your young ones.
What is the max. capacity of your vehicles?
The roof top tent camper vehicles fit 3 people maximum, although if there are more in your party, we do offer an extra tent, too. With this, we are able to accommodate as much as 5 people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
Are you offering surfboards?
Certainly, we provide both surfboards & boogie boards and also fins upon request for a small fee. Just inform us beforehand if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we receive a guide book or perhaps a map with the best locations to visit on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to visit & camp out on Kauai.
Top Locations For Camping On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I visit any beach for camping?
You can go to any beach, however, you should only set up your camp in designated camping grounds. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We’ll provide you with a list of the best places to explore and to camp in. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” permitted or are we just able to go to official camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping is not allowed on the island of Kauai. You can only go camping in specific areas with a valid camping permit. The charge is around $3 per night stay in most Kauai county parks, though private campgrounds could be a little more. The good thing about these campgrounds is that you will have full access to facilities, like showers, restrooms and picnic tables. Please be aware that if you opt to camp on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It is a good idea to organize your Kauai camping license prior to your trip. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may secure your permits online and also in person in the designated office.
If you opt to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you can obtain permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
In advance, the fees are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are money orders & cashier’s checks. But you don’t have to reserve your camping licenses prior to your planned arrival. You may also get them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
No matter whether you choose to camp at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to stay at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to receive your permits. Permits can be obtained at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are given immediately.
