Here are Some Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any age limits to rent from you?

We try to work with clients who are actually 25 years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. Nevertheless, based upon your needs, whenever possible, we strive to be flexible.

If you are below twenty-five, try checking in with your insurer to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.

Are your roof top tent campers kids friendly?

Indeed! Please note that with our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb up a little ladder. If this is a problem, we offer an additional camping tent with each package which you can put up on the ground beside your camping truck. This may be much more comfortable for both you and your young children.

What is the max. capacity of your camping vehicles?

We could accommodate three people maximum, although if there are more within your party, we do offer an additional camping tent, as well. With this, we are able to accommodate about 5 people. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.

Are you offering surfboards?

Yes, we provide both surfboards & boogie boards as well as fins on request for a small fee. Just tell us beforehand if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we get a guidebook or even a map with the best hiking trails & beaches to check out on Kauai?

Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to see & camp out on Kauai.

Finest Spots For Camping On Kauai & Information Regarding Camping Permits

Am I able to go to any beach front to camp?

You may go to any beach, but you can only put up your camp in designated camping grounds. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We will give you a list of the ideal locations to visit and also to go camping. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.

Are we allowed to camp in the wild or can we only visit official camping grounds? If so, how much will it cost?

No, wild camping is not allowed in Kauai. You should only camp in specific areas with a current camping permit. The charge is around $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private campgrounds could be a little more. The good thing about these campgrounds is that you will have total access to facilities, such as showers, washrooms and picnic dining tables. Please be aware that if you choose to camp on the county campsites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?

It is definitely a better to get your Kauai camping permits prior to your trip. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your licenses on the internet and also in person in the respective office.

If you choose to camp at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you may ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.

Up-front, the fees are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, you don’t necessarily have to book your camping licenses before your arrival. You can also obtain them at the different permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.

How long does it take to get the camping permits?

Whether you choose to camp at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to go to a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to receive your permits. You might choose to obtain your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them immediately.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
