Commonly Asked Questions

Is there an age requirement to rent from you?

We try to work with customers who are twenty-five years and older because of our insurance coverage restrictions. However, based upon your situation, whenever we can, we strive to be flexible.

If you are below 25 years, try contacting your insurer to determine if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.

Are you able to accommodate families with children?

Of course! Please keep in mind that using our rooftop campers you would need to climb one small ladder. If this sounds like an issue, we offer an extra tent with all of our packages which you can easily put up on the ground. This may be more convenient for you as well as your young children.

How many individuals can your camper vehicles accommodate?

Our camper vehicles fit 3 individuals at most, though in case there are more within your group, we do provide an additional tent, as well. With this, we are able to fit about five individuals. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.

Are you offering surfboards?

Yes, we offer both surfboards and boogie boards as well as fins on request for a small fee. Just inform us in advance if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we get a guidebook or even a map with the best beaches and hiking trails to check out on Kauai?

Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to visit and go camping on Kauai.

Kauai Camping Guide & Information Regarding Camping Permits

Am I able to visit any beach front for camping?

You may drive up to any beach, but you should only put up your camp in official camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the usual practice. We’ll give you a list of the ideal places to explore and to camp in. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.

Are we allowed to camp in the wild or are we just able to visit designated camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?

No, wild camping isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You can only go camping in specific areas with a current camping permit. The associated fee is about $3 per night in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private camping grounds may be a bit more. One advantage of these campgrounds is that you have complete access to facilities, such as bathrooms, showers and picnic kitchen tables. Please note that if you opt to camp on the county campsites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?

It is definitely a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping permits before your trip. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits online and also on-the-spot in the respective office.

If you decide to camp at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you may request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.

Up-front, the charges are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. However, you don’t necessarily have to book your camping licenses prior to your planned arrival. You can also get them at the designated permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.

How long does it take to get the camping permits?

No matter whether you decide to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to go to a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to receive your permits. You might choose to get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will receive them on the spot.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
