Commonly Asked Questions
What’s the minimum age to rent from you?
We try to work with clients who are actually twenty-five years and above because of our insurance coverage restrictions. Having said that, depending on your needs, whenever we can, we always try to be flexible.
If you are younger than twenty-five, consider checking in with your insurance company to determine if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.
Can you accommodate families who have kids?
Indeed! Please note that using our rooftop campers you would need to climb a little ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we also provide an extra tent with each package which you could put up on the ground next to your camping vehicle. This could be much more comfortable for both you and also your young ones.
How many individuals can your camper trucks accommodate?
Our camper vehicles sleep 3 people maximum, although if there are more in your group, we do offer an extra camping tent, too. With this, we are able to accommodate up to five individuals. All of our trucks have 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Yes, we offer surfboards and boogie boards as well as fins on request for a small fee. Just tell us up-front if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we get a guide or a map with the best areas to visit on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to see & go camping on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to visit any beach front for camping?
You could go to any beach, however, you should only put up your camp in designated camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard practice. We will give you a list of the ideal locations to explore and also to go camping. Please be aware that driving on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or can we only visit official camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t permitted in Kauai. You should only camp in specific areas with secured camping permits. The associated fee is around $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county parks, though private camp sites could be a bit more. One advantage of these campsites is that you will have full access to amenities, like showers, bathrooms and picnic dining tables. Please remember that if you opt to go camping on the county campsites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?
It is a better to organize your Kauai camping permits prior to your journey. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may get your licenses online and also in person in the designated office.
If you choose to stay at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
Up-front, the costs are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders & cashier’s checks. However, you don’t have to book your camping licenses before your planned arrival. You can also obtain them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
How long does it take to get the camping permits?
Whether you decide to camp at a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to camp at a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite a while to get your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given right away.
