Here are Some Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any age restrictions to rent from you?
We try to work with customers who are 25 years and older due to our insurance coverage restrictions. However, depending on your needs, whenever possible, we always try to be accommodating.
In case you are younger than twenty-five, try checking with your insurer to find out whether you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are you able to accommodate families who have kids?
Of course! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb up a little ladder. If this is an issue, we also provide an extra camping tent with every package which you could put up on the ground. This could be much more comfortable for you and also your children.
How many individuals can your camping vehicles accommodate?
We could fit 3 individuals at most, though in case there are more within your group, we do provide an extra tent, as well. With this, we can easily allow for about 5 people. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.
Are you offering surfboards?
Yes, our company offers surfboards & boogie boards and fins upon request for a small fee. Just let us know beforehand if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we get a travel guide or a map with the nicest beaches & hiking trails to explore on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to see & camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I go to any beach to camp?
You can drive up to any beach, however, you can only set up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We’ll give you a list of the best places to visit and also to camp in. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” permitted or can we just go to official camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You can only go camping in official locations with a valid camping permit. The associated fee is around $3 per night stay in most Kauai county campgrounds, though private camping grounds may be a little more. One advantage of these campsites is that you will have full access to amenities, including showers, restrooms and picnic kitchen tables. Please note that if you opt to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.
Can you recommend any Kauai camping sites where we can set up the roof top tent?

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It is definitely a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping license prior to your arrival. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can get your licenses online and also in person in the designated office.
If you decide to stay at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you can ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.
Up-front, the charges are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are cashier’s checks as well as money orders. However, it’s not absolutely necessary to reserve your camping permits prior to your planned arrival. You could also get them at the designated permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?
No matter whether you decide to go to a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to go to a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite some time to get your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are issued on the spot.
