Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We prefer to work with clients who are actually twenty-five years and older due to our insurance coverage restrictions. But, depending on your needs, whenever we can, we always try to be accommodating.
If you are below 25 years, consider checking with your insurer to find out if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are your rooftop tents family friendly?
Yes! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb a small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we offer an extra camping tent with every package which you may put up on the ground beside your camper truck. This could be more convenient for both you and also your little ones.
How many individuals can your camper vehicles accommodate?
The camping trucks fit 3 individuals at most, though if there are more within your party, we do have an additional tent, too. With this, we are able to fit as much as five people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
Are you offering surfboards?
Yes, we provide surfboards and boogie boards and fins upon request for a fee. Simply tell us up-front if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we get a guide or a map with the best areas to explore on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to see and camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I go to any beach front for camping?
You may drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you can only set up your camp in official camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We will give you a list of the top locations to explore and to camp in. Please be aware that driving on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Are we allowed to camp in the wild or are we just able to go to designated camping sites? If so, how much will it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You can only go camping in specific areas with a current camping permit. The fee is around $3 per night in the majority of Kauai county campgrounds, but private campsites may be a little more. The good thing about these campgrounds is that you will have full access to facilities, like showers, bathrooms & picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you choose to go camping on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?
It is a better to organize your Kauai camping license before your trip. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may secure your licenses online and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you opt to stay at a county campground and use a ground tent, you may ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Non-residents need to pay three dollars per night beforehand. Payment methods accepted with this application are bank checks and also money orders. However, it’s not necessary to reserve your camping licenses prior to your planned arrival. You can also obtain them at the various permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.
How much time does it take to obtain the camping permits?
If you decide to stay at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to go to a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite a while to receive your permits. You might choose to get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them right away.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
