FAQs
Are there any age restrictions to rent from you?
We prefer to work with clients who are 25 years and above because of our insurance coverage restrictions. Having said that, based upon your situation, whenever we can, we strive to be flexible.
If you are younger than 25 years, try checking in with your insurance company to see if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are your roof top tent campers kids friendly?
Absolutely! Please note that with our rooftop campers you will need to climb a little ladder. If this is an issue, we offer an additional camping tent with every package which you can easily set up on the ground beside the camper vehicle. This could be more suitable for you and your children.
What is the maximum capacity of your camper vehicles?
The camper trucks sleep 3 individuals maximum, although in case there are more in your party, we do have an additional camping tent, as well. With this, we are able to fit up to 5 people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
Do you provide surfboards?
Absolutely yes, we provide both surfboards and boogie boards and fins on request for a small fee. Just let us know up-front if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we receive a travel guide or even a map with the best beaches & hiking trails to visit on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to see & go camping on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Specifics About Camping Permits
Can I visit any beach front for camping?
You can go to any beach, however, you can only set up your camp in designated camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard practice. We’ll provide you with a list of the greatest places to explore and to camp in. Please remember that driving on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or can we just visit official camping sites? If so, how much is the cost?
No, wild camping is not allowed in Kauai. You can only go camping in designated areas with a valid camping permit. The fee is approximately $3 per night stay in many Kauai county parks, though private camp sites could be a bit more. One advantage of these campgrounds is that you have full access to amenities, including restrooms, showers and picnic tables. Please note that if you choose to go camping on the county campsites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is a better to obtain your Kauai camping license before your trip. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your permits online and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you opt to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Non-residents have to pay 3 dollars per night beforehand. Payment methods accepted with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, it’s not absolutely necessary to reserve your camping licenses prior to your planned arrival. You may also get them at the designated permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.
How much time does it take to obtain the camping permits?
If you choose to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to camp at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite a while to receive your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are issued on the spot.
