Ideal Locations For Camping Outdoors On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to head to any beach front for camping?
You could drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you should only set up your camp in official camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the usual procedure. We’ll give you a list of the top places to visit and also to camp in. Please note that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” permitted or can we just go to official camping grounds? If so, how much will it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t allowed on the island of Kauai. You can only go camping in specified locations with a current camping permit. The fee is about $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private campgrounds could be a little more. One advantage of these campsites is that you will have full access to facilities, such as bathrooms, showers and picnic kitchen tables. Please keep in mind that if you choose to camp on the county campsites, you are only permitted to set up the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is definitely a better to obtain your Kauai camping license before your arrival. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you can secure your licenses online and also in person in the designated office.
If you decide to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you can obtain permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
In advance, the costs are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders & cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping permits before your arrival. You could also get them at the various permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.
How much time does it take to get the camping permits?
Whether you decide to stay at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to go to a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to get your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given right away.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time
Los Angeles, CA
Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
