Best Spots For Camping Outdoors On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to visit any beach for camping?
You may drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you can only put up your camp in official camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We’ll give you a list of the top locations to explore and to camp in. Please note that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or can we only visit designated camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t allowed in Kauai. You may only go camping in designated locations with secured camping permits. The charge is roughly $3 per night stay in most Kauai county parks, but private campsites could be a bit more. The good thing about these camping grounds is that you will have full access to facilities, including bathrooms, showers & picnic tables. Please be aware that if you choose to go camping on the county campgrounds, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is a better to obtain your Kauai camping permits prior to your journey. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can get your licenses online and also in person in the respective office.
If you decide to stay at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
In advance, the costs are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this application are money orders & cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, it isn’t necessary to reserve your camping licenses before your arrival. You could also obtain them at the designated permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
Whether you choose to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to stay at a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite some time to get your permits. Permits can be obtained at the license offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given immediately.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
