Commonly Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We try to work with customers who are twenty-five years and older because of our insurance coverage restrictions. On the other hand, based on your needs, whenever possible, we try to be accommodating.
If you are below 25 years, consider checking in with your insurance company to see if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Can you accommodate adults who have children?
Yes! Please note that using our rooftop campers you will need to climb one small ladder. If this is an issue, we provide an extra camping tent with each package which you can easily put up on the ground. This could be much more comfortable for you and also your young ones.
How many people can your camper vehicles fit?
The roof top tent camper trucks fit three individuals maximum, although in case there are more in your party, we do provide an additional tent, too. With this, we can easily accommodate as much as five individuals. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Yes, we offer both surfboards and boogie boards as well as fins upon request for a fee. Simply let us know in advance if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we receive a travel guide or even a map with the nicest locations to check out on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to visit & go camping on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I visit any beach front for camping?
You could drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you can only set up your camp in official camping sites. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We will give you a list of the best locations to check out and to go camping. Please be aware that driving on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or are we only able to visit official camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping is not permitted in Kauai. You should only go camping in specified areas with secured camping permits. The charge is roughly $3 per night stay in most Kauai county parks, but private camping grounds could be a bit more. One particular advantage of these campsites is that you will have complete access to facilities, including showers, restrooms & picnic tables. Please be aware that if you choose to camp on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to set up the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?
It is a good idea to get your Kauai camping permits before your trip. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits online and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you decide to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you may obtain permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
Non-residents need to pay three dollars per night in advance. Payment methods accepted with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. But you don’t necessarily have to book your camping permits prior to your planned arrival. You may also obtain them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?
No matter if you choose to camp at a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to stay at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite some time to obtain your permits. You might get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them immediately.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time
Los Angeles, CA
Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
