Commonly Asked Questions

Is there an age requirement to rent from you?

We prefer to do business with clients who are 25 years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. But, based upon your situation, whenever possible, we strive to be accommodating.

If you are below 25 years, consider checking in with your insurance provider to determine if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.

Are your roof top tent camper vehicles family friendly?

Of course! Please note that with our rooftop campers you will need to climb up a little ladder. If this is a problem, we provide an additional tent with every package which you can put up on the ground. This can be more convenient for both you and your young ones.

How many individuals can your camper trucks fit?

The camping vehicles fit 3 people at most, although if there are more in your group, we do have an extra camping tent, as well. With this, we are able to fit up to five people. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.

Do you have surfboards?

Absolutely yes, we provide both surfboards & boogie boards and also fins upon request for a small fee. Just tell us up-front if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we receive a guide or perhaps a map with the best hiking trails & beaches to check out on Kauai?

Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to see & go camping on Kauai.

Greatest Locations For Camping On Kauai & Details About Camping Permits

Am I able to visit any beach front to camp?

You can go to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in designated camping sites. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We’ll give you a list of the ideal locations to check out and to go camping. Please be aware that driving on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” allowed or are we only able to visit official camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?

No, wild camping is not allowed on the island of Kauai. You may only camp in specific areas with a valid camping permit. The associated fee is approximately $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private campgrounds may be a little more. One particular advantage of these campsites is that you will have full access to facilities, including showers, restrooms and picnic dining tables. Please note that if you choose to go camping on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Where can I park and sleep with my roof top tent camper?

  • Kōkeʻe State Park (need camping permit): Kokee Rd, Hwy 550, Kekaha, HI 96752

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?

It’s a better to get your Kauai camping license prior to your journey. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your licenses on the internet and also on-the-spot in the designated office.

If you choose to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you can request permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.

In advance, the charges are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are money orders and cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, you don’t necessarily have to book your camping licenses before your planned arrival. You can also get them at the different permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

Whether you choose to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to stay at a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite some time to get your permits. You might receive your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them right away.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
