Commonly Asked Questions
What is the minimum age to rent from you?
We prefer to do business with customers who are twenty-five years and older due to our insurance coverage restrictions. But, based on your circumstances, whenever we can, we strive to be flexible.
In case you are below 25 years, try checking with your insurance company to find out if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.
Are your rooftop tents kids friendly?
Yes! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop campers you’ll have to climb up one small ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we also provide an extra tent with every package which you could put up on the ground. This could be more comfortable for both you and also your children.
How many people can your camping trucks fit?
We can accommodate three people maximum, although in case there are more within your group, we do offer an extra camping tent, as well. With this, we are able to allow for as much as 5 individuals. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Certainly, we provide both surfboards and boogie boards and fins on request for a fee. Just inform us beforehand if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we receive a guidebook or a map with the greatest hiking trails and beaches to visit on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to check out and go camping on Kauai.
Best Places For Camping Out On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I go to any beach front for camping?
You could go to any beach, however, you can only set up your camp in designated camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the usual practice. We’ll provide you with a list of the greatest locations to explore and to go camping. Please be aware that driving on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” permitted or can we just go to official camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping is not allowed on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in specific areas with secured camping permits. The fee is around $3 per night in the majority of Kauai county campgrounds, but private campgrounds may be a little more. One advantage of these campgrounds is that you have full access to facilities, including bathrooms, showers and picnic dining tables. Please be aware that if you opt to camp on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to set up the ground tent.

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is a better to obtain your Kauai camping license prior to your arrival. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits on the internet and also in person in the respective office.
If you decide to stay at a county campground and use a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.
Non-residents must pay three dollars per night in advance. Payment methods accepted with this application are money orders & cashier’s checks. But it’s not absolutely necessary to reserve your camping permits prior to your planned arrival. You could also get them at the designated permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
How much time does it take to get the camping permits?
Whether you choose to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to camp at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite a while to obtain your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given right away.
