Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We try to work with clients who are 25 years and older because of our insurance coverage restrictions. Nevertheless, based upon your needs, whenever we can, we try to be flexible.
In case you are younger than 25 years, try contacting your insurance company to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.
Are your rooftop tents kids friendly?
Of course! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop campers you will need to climb up one small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we provide an additional camping tent with each package which you may put up on the ground next to the camper vehicle. This may be much more comfortable for you as well as your young children.
What is the max. capacity of your vehicles?
The camper trucks sleep 3 individuals maximum, although if there are more in your party, we do have an extra tent, as well. With this, we are able to fit about 5 individuals. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.
Do you have surfboards?
Certainly, we offer both surfboards and boogie boards and fins upon request for a fee. Just let us know in advance if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we receive a guide or perhaps a map with the nicest areas to visit on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to check out & camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Information About Camping Permits
Am I able to visit any beach for camping?
You can drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you should only put up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We will provide you with a list of the ideal locations to check out and also to go camping. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.
Are we permitted to camp in the wild or are we just able to go to official camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t allowed on the island of Kauai. You should only camp in designated areas with secured camping permits. The associated fee is roughly $3 per night in most Kauai county campgrounds, though private camp sites could be a little more. The good thing about these campsites is that you will have full access to facilities, including showers, restrooms & picnic tables. Please note that if you decide to go camping on the county campsites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It is a good idea to organize your Kauai camping license before your journey. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your permits online and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you choose to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you can request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Non-residents have to pay three dollars per night up-front. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. However, it is not absolutely necessary to reserve your camping licenses prior to your arrival. You can also obtain them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
How much time will it take to get the camping permits?
No matter whether you choose to camp at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to go to a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite some time to obtain your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are given immediately.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
