Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a minimum age to rent from you?
We prefer to do business with clients who are 25 years and older because of our insurance coverage restrictions. However, depending on your circumstances, whenever possible, we always try to be accommodating.
In case you are below 25 years, consider contacting your insurance company to determine if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.
Can you accommodate adults with kids?
Of course! Please keep in mind that using our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb up one small ladder. If this sounds like an issue, we also offer an extra tent with each of our packages which you can put up on the ground next to the camper vehicle. This could be more convenient for you and your young ones.
What is the maximum capacity of your camping vehicles?
The camper vehicles sleep 3 individuals at most, though if there are more in your group, we do provide an additional tent, too. With this, we are able to fit about 5 individuals. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.
Are you able to provide surfboards?
Yes, our company offers surfboards and boogie boards as well as fins on request for a small fee. Just inform us up-front if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we get a guide or even a map with the nicest areas to explore on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to check out & camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I visit any beach for camping?
You could go to any beach, but you should only put up your camp in designated camping grounds. This is the standard practice here on Kauai. We’ll provide you with a list of the ideal places to explore and also to go camping. Please note that driving on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or can we just go to designated camping sites? If so, what is the cost?
No, wild camping is not allowed on the island of Kauai. You should only camp in specific locations with a current camping permit. The charge is roughly $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county parks, but private camp sites could be a bit more. The good thing about these campsites is that you will have full access to facilities, such as restrooms, showers and picnic dining tables. Please keep in mind that if you decide to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?
It’s a better to organize your Kauai camping license prior to your arrival. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your licenses online and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you opt to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you can request permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.
Up-front, the costs are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are bank checks as well as money orders. Nevertheless, you don’t have to book your camping permits prior to your arrival. You can also obtain them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
No matter whether you choose to stay at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to stay at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite some time to receive your permits. Permits can be bought at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are given on the spot.
