Commonly Asked Questions

Is there an age requirement to rent from you?

We would rather like to do business with customers who are twenty-five years and above due to our insurance policy restrictions. But, based upon your needs, whenever we can, we always try to be flexible.

In case you are below 25 years, consider contacting your insurance provider to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.

Are you able to accommodate families who have kids?

Yes! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb up one small ladder. If this is a concern, we provide an extra tent with all of our packages which you could put up on the ground next to the camping truck. This can be more convenient for you as well as your young ones.

What is the maximum capacity of your trucks?

The roof top tent camper trucks sleep three individuals maximum, though in case there are more within your group, we do provide an additional tent, too. With this, we are able to fit about five individuals. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.

Are you able to provide surfboards?

Yes, our company offers surfboards and boogie boards and fins on request for a fee. Just tell us in advance if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we get a guide or even a map with the nicest areas to check out on Kauai?

Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to check out & camp out on Kauai.

Kauai Camping Guide & Specifics About Camping Permits

Am I able to go to any beach to camp?

You may go to any beach, nevertheless, you should only put up your camp in official camping sites. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We will supply you with a list of the top locations to check out and to camp in. Please remember that driving on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or can we just go to official camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?

No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You may only camp in designated areas with secured camping permits. The charge is around $3 per night stay in most Kauai county parks, but private camping grounds could be a bit more. The good thing about these camping grounds is that you will have complete access to amenities, like showers, restrooms and picnic tables. Please be aware that if you choose to go camping on the county campsites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?

It’s a better to obtain your Kauai camping permits prior to your journey. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you can secure your licenses online and also in person in the respective office.

If you opt to stay at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you can obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.

Up-front, the fees are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this application are bank checks as well as money orders. Nevertheless, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping licenses before your planned arrival. You may also get them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

If you choose to camp at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to stay at a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite a while to get your permits. You might choose to get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the various permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will receive them on the spot.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
