Best Places For Camping Outdoors On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to go to any beach to camp?
You can drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you can only set up your camp in official camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the usual procedure. We will supply you with a list of the best places to check out and also to camp in. Please remember that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Are we allowed to camp in the wild or are we only able to go to official camping sites? If so, how much will it cost?
No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in specified areas with secured camping permits. The charge is approximately $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, though private camping grounds could be a bit more. The good thing about these camping grounds is that you have complete access to facilities, including showers, restrooms & picnic tables. Please remember that if you opt to go camping on the county campsites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is a better to obtain your Kauai camping license before your trip. For most private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your licenses on the internet and also in person in the designated office.
If you decide to camp at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you can ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.
Up-front, the fees are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are cashier’s checks as well as money orders. But you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping permits before your arrival. You can also obtain them at the different permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.
How long will it take to get the camping permits?
No matter whether you decide to camp at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to stay at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to receive your permits. You might get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the designated permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will get them immediately.
