Are there any age restrictions to rent from you?
We try to do business with customers who are twenty-five years and older because of our insurance coverage restrictions. But, based upon your situation, whenever we can, we try to be accommodating.
If you are younger than 25 years, try checking with your insurance provider to determine if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are your roof top tents kids friendly?
Of course! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb up a small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we also offer an extra camping tent with each package which you could put up on the ground beside your camper truck. This could be more comfortable for both you as well as your children.
How many individuals can your camping trucks accommodate?
We can fit three individuals at most, although in case there are more in your party, we do have an additional tent, too. With this, we are able to allow for about 5 people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
Are you able to provide surfboards?
Yes, Kauai Rooftop Campers offers surfboards & boogie boards and also fins upon request for a small fee. Just let us know beforehand if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we get a travel guide or a map with the greatest locations to check out on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to see and camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to go to any beach to camp?
You can drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you can only put up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the standard practice here on Kauai. We’ll supply you with a list of the best locations to explore and also to camp in. Please remember that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Are we permitted to camp in the wild or are we only able to go to official camping grounds? If so, how much will it cost?
No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in specified areas with secured camping permits. The charge is about $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county campgrounds, but private camp sites could be a bit more. One particular advantage of these campgrounds is that you will have full access to amenities, including showers, washrooms & picnic dining tables. Please note that if you opt to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It is a better to organize your Kauai camping license prior to your arrival. For most private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your permits online and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you opt to stay at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you can ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Non-residents need to pay three dollars per night beforehand. Accepted payment methods with this application are cashier’s checks as well as money orders. But it’s not necessary to reserve your camping permits before your arrival. You may also obtain them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?
Whether you choose to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to stay at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite a while to obtain your permits. You might choose to get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on the island; in-person you will get them on the spot.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
