Commonly Asked Questions

Are there any age limits to rent from you?

We would rather like to work with customers who are twenty-five years and above due to our insurance policy restrictions. Nevertheless, depending on your needs, whenever possible, we try to be flexible.

If you are below 25 years, consider checking in with your insurance company to find out if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.

Are your roof top tent campers kids friendly?

Of course! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop campers you will need to climb a little ladder. If this is a concern, we offer an extra camping tent with each package which you can put up on the ground. This may be much more comfortable for you and your young ones.

What is the maximum capacity of your trucks?

The roof top tent camping vehicles sleep 3 people at most, although in case there are more in your group, we do offer an extra camping tent, too. With this, we are able to fit as much as five people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.

Are you able to provide surfboards?

Yes, we provide surfboards and boogie boards as well as fins on request for a small fee. Just inform us up-front if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we receive a guide or even a map with the nicest beaches and hiking trails to check out on Kauai?

Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to see and go camping on Kauai.

Ideal Locations For Camping Out On Kauai & Information Regarding Camping Permits

Am I able to head to any beach front to camp?

You could go to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in designated camping grounds. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We’ll supply you with a list of the best locations to visit and to go camping. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” allowed or are we just able to go to official camping grounds? If so, how much will it cost?

No, wild camping isn’t permitted in Kauai. You can only camp in specified areas with secured camping permits. The charge is around $3 per night in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private campgrounds may be a little more. One particular advantage of these campgrounds is that you will have complete access to amenities, like showers, restrooms and picnic tables. Please note that if you choose to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?

It is a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping license before your trip. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can get your permits online and also in person in the designated office.

If you decide to camp at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you may obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.

In advance, the costs are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are cashier’s checks as well as money orders. Nevertheless, it’s not necessary to book your camping licenses prior to your arrival. You could also get them at the designated permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.

How long does it take to obtain the camping permits?

Whether you choose to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to go to a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to obtain your permits. You may choose to obtain your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the designated permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will receive them immediately.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
