Commonly Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We try to do business with customers who are actually twenty-five years and older because of our insurance coverage restrictions. However, depending on your situation, whenever possible, we try to be flexible.
In case you are younger than twenty-five, try checking with your insurance provider to see if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.
Are your roof top tents family friendly?
Indeed! Please note that with our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb a small ladder. If this is a concern, we also provide an extra tent with every package which you can easily put up on the ground beside the camper vehicle. This may be much more comfortable for both you as well as your young ones.
What is the maximum capacity of your vehicles?
We could fit 3 people maximum, although if there are more in your party, we do offer an additional camping tent, as well. With this, we can easily accommodate as much as five individuals. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Certainly, we provide both surfboards & boogie boards and also fins on request for a small fee. Simply tell us beforehand if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we receive a guide book or even a map with the best beaches & hiking trails to visit on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to visit and camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I go to any beach to camp?
You could drive up to any beach, however, you should only put up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We will give you a list of the best places to check out and also to go camping. Please remember that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.
Are we permitted to camp in the wild or can we just go to official camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping is not permitted in Kauai. You can only camp in official areas with a valid camping permit. The associated fee is roughly $3 per night in many Kauai county campgrounds, though private campsites could be a bit more. One particular advantage of these campsites is that you will have complete access to facilities, like showers, washrooms and picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you opt to go camping on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is a better to get your Kauai camping permits before your arrival. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may get your licenses on the internet and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you decide to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you may ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
Non-residents need to pay 3 dollars per night in advance. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. But it is not absolutely necessary to reserve your camping licenses before your arrival. You could also get them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
No matter if you decide to go to a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to go to a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite some time to receive your permits. You might receive your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on the island; in-person you will get them right away.
