Commonly Asked Questions

Are there any age limits to rent from you?

We prefer to work with clients who are actually 25 years and above because of our insurance policy restrictions. Having said that, based upon your circumstances, whenever possible, we strive to be accommodating.

In case you are younger than 25 years, try contacting your insurance company to determine if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.

Are your roof top tent camper trucks family friendly?

Certainly! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb a little ladder. If this is a problem, we offer an additional camping tent with every package which you can easily set up on the ground. This could be more convenient for you and your children.

What is the maximum capacity of your camper trucks?

The camping trucks fit 3 individuals maximum, though if there are more within your party, we do provide an additional camping tent, as well. With this, we are able to fit up to five people. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.

What about surfboards?

Absolutely yes, our company offers both surfboards and boogie boards and also fins on request for a fee. Just tell us in advance if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we get a guidebook or a map with the best beaches and hiking trails to check out on Kauai?

Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to visit & camp out on Kauai.

Ideal Spots For Camping On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ

Am I able to go to any beach front to camp?

You can drive up to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in official camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard practice. We will provide you with a list of the ideal places to check out and to go camping. Please note that driving on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.

Are we permitted to camp in the wild or can we just visit designated camping grounds? If so, how much will it cost?

No, wild camping is not allowed in Kauai. You can only go camping in specified areas with secured camping permits. The fee is roughly $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, though private camping grounds could be a bit more. One particular advantage of these campsites is that you will have complete access to facilities, such as showers, restrooms & picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you opt to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Can you recommend any Kauai camping sites where I can set up the roof top tent?

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is a better to organize your Kauai camping permits before your arrival. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your permits on the internet and also on-the-spot in the respective office.

If you opt to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you may obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.

Non-residents have to pay three dollars per night beforehand. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are cashier’s checks as well as money orders. However, you don’t necessarily have to book your camping permits prior to your arrival. You could also get them at the designated permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

No matter whether you decide to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to stay at a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite some time to receive your permits. Permits can be bought at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are issued on the spot.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
