Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an age requirement to rent from you?

We try to do business with customers who are 25 years and above due to our insurance coverage restrictions. Having said that, based upon your circumstances, whenever possible, we always try to be accommodating.

In case you are below twenty-five, consider checking with your insurance company to determine if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.

Would you be able to accommodate families with kids?

Yes! Please note that using our rooftop campers you will need to climb one small ladder. If this sounds like an issue, we provide an extra tent with every package which you can easily set up on the ground beside your camper vehicle. This may be more convenient for you and your young children.

What is the maximum capacity of your trucks?

We can accommodate 3 people at most, though if there are more within your group, we do have an additional tent, as well. With this, we can easily fit as much as 5 people. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.

Can you provide surfboards?

Absolutely yes, our company offers both surfboards and boogie boards and also fins upon request for a fee. Simply inform us beforehand if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we receive a guide book or perhaps a map with the nicest places to visit on Kauai?

Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to check out and camp out on Kauai.

Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ

Can I go to any beach to camp?

You could go to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in official camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We’ll give you a list of the best places to check out and to go camping. Please note that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or can we only go to designated camping sites? If so, how much will it cost?

No, wild camping is not allowed in Kauai. You should only go camping in specific locations with secured camping permits. The charge is about $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private campsites could be a little more. One particular advantage of these campsites is that you have full access to facilities, like restrooms, showers and picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you decide to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Where can I park and sleep with my roof top tent camper?

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is a better to obtain your Kauai camping permits before your journey. For most private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits online and also on-the-spot in the respective office.

If you opt to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you may request permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.

Non-residents must pay three dollars per night up-front. Payment methods accepted with this application are bank checks and also money orders. However, you don’t necessarily have to book your camping licenses before your planned arrival. You can also obtain them at the different permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

If you decide to stay at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to stay at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite a while to obtain your permits. You might obtain your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the designated permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will receive them immediately.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
