Greatest Locations For Camping On Kauai & Information Regarding Camping Permits
Am I able to head to any beach front to camp?
You may drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you should only set up your camp in official camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We will give you a list of the greatest places to explore and to go camping. Please remember that driving on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or can we only visit designated camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping is not allowed in Kauai. You should only camp in specified locations with a current camping permit. The charge is approximately $3 per night in most Kauai county parks, though private campsites may be a little more. One particular advantage of these campgrounds is that you have full access to amenities, like restrooms, showers and picnic tables. Please note that if you choose to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It is definitely a good idea to organize your Kauai camping permits before your trip. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may get your licenses on the internet and also in person in the designated office.
If you decide to stay at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you can request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.
Non-residents must pay 3 dollars per night beforehand. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are money orders & cashier’s checks. However, it isn’t necessary to reserve your camping permits prior to your arrival. You may also get them at the various permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.
How long will it take to obtain the camping permits?
Whether you decide to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to stay at a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite some time to obtain your permits. You may choose to obtain your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the various permit offices on the island; in-person you will get them on the spot.
