Below are Some Commonly Asked Questions

Are there any age limits to rent from you?

We would rather like to do business with clients who are actually twenty-five years and older due to our insurance policy restrictions. On the other hand, depending on your needs, whenever possible, we always try to be accommodating.

In case you are below twenty-five, consider contacting your insurance company to find out if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.

Are your roof top tents family friendly?

Certainly! Please note that with our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb up one small ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we offer an extra tent with every package which you could put up on the ground. This may be much more comfortable for you and also your kids.

What is the maximum capacity of your trucks?

Our camper trucks sleep 3 people maximum, although if there are more within your party, we do have an extra camping tent, as well. With this, we are able to fit up to 5 individuals. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.

Do you offer surfboards?

Certainly, we offer both surfboards & boogie boards and also fins upon request for a fee. Simply let us know beforehand if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we get a travel guide or even a map with the best beaches and hiking trails to check out on Kauai?

Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to check out and camp out on Kauai.

Greatest Places For Camping On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ

Can I visit any beach front for camping?

You may go to any beach, but you can only set up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We will provide you with a list of the ideal locations to explore and also to go camping. Please remember that driving on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.

Are we allowed to camp in the wild or are we just able to go to official camping sites? If so, what is the charge?

No, wild camping isn’t permitted in Kauai. You may only go camping in designated areas with secured camping permits. The associated fee is approximately $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county parks, though private camping grounds may be a little more. The good thing about these campgrounds is that you have full access to amenities, including bathrooms, showers & picnic kitchen tables. Please keep in mind that if you opt to go camping on the county campgrounds, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping license prior to your arrival. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your licenses on the internet and also on-the-spot in the designated office.

If you decide to camp at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you can ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.

Non-residents need to pay three dollars per night up-front. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are money orders & cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, it’s not necessary to book your camping licenses prior to your planned arrival. You could also get them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.

How much time does it take to get the camping permits?

If you choose to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to camp at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite some time to obtain your permits. You might choose to get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the designated permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them immediately.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
