Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum age to rent from you?

We would rather like to do business with customers who are twenty-five years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. However, depending on your needs, whenever we can, we always try to be accommodating.

If you are younger than twenty-five, try checking in with your insurance company to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.

Are you able to accommodate families who have children?

Absolutely! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb one small ladder. If this is a concern, we offer an extra camping tent with each of our packages which you can put up on the ground. This may be more suitable for you and your kids.

How many people can your camper trucks accommodate?

We can accommodate three people at most, although if there are more within your group, we do offer an extra tent, as well. With this, we are able to fit up to five people. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.

Do you provide surfboards?

Yes, we offer both surfboards and boogie boards and fins upon request for a small fee. Simply tell us up-front if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we get a travel guide or a map with the nicest locations to visit on Kauai?

Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to see & go camping on Kauai.

Ideal Locations For Camping On Kauai & Information Regarding Camping Permits

Can I head to any beach for camping?

You could go to any beach, but you can only put up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the standard practice here on Kauai. We will provide you with a list of the best locations to visit and to go camping. Please be aware that driving on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or are we only able to visit official camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?

No, wild camping isn’t allowed on the island of Kauai. You can only camp in specified areas with secured camping permits. The charge is about $3 per night in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private campgrounds may be a bit more. The good thing about these campsites is that you will have complete access to amenities, like showers, restrooms & picnic tables. Please note that if you choose to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

What camping grounds do you suggest with the rooftop camping tent?

  • Kōkeʻe State Park (need camping permit): Kokee Rd, Hwy 550, Kekaha, HI 96752
  • Sugi Grove Campground (need camping permit): Access from MohihiCamp 10 Road, starting 100 yards past Kōkeʻe State Park headquarters along Highway 550. Latitude 22.13 N, Longitude -159.622 W.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?

It’s a good idea to organize your Kauai camping license before your journey. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you can get your permits online and also in person in the respective office.

If you choose to camp at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you can request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.

In advance, the costs are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are bank checks and money orders. But it is not necessary to book your camping licenses prior to your arrival. You can also get them at the different permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

No matter whether you decide to camp at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to stay at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite a while to obtain your permits. Permits can be obtained at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are issued right away.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
