Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We would rather like to do business with clients who are 25 years and older due to our insurance coverage restrictions. But, depending on your circumstances, whenever we can, we always try to be accommodating.
In case you are below 25 years, consider checking with your insurance provider to see if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.
Are your rooftop tents kids friendly?
Indeed! Please keep in mind that using our rooftop campers you would need to climb one small ladder. If this sounds like an issue, we offer an extra tent with each of our packages which you can easily put up on the ground beside your camper truck. This can be more convenient for both you and your kids.
How many people can your camping trucks accommodate?
We can accommodate 3 people maximum, though if there are more within your party, we do offer an additional camping tent, too. With this, we are able to accommodate as much as five individuals. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Certainly, our company offers surfboards and boogie boards as well as fins upon request for a small fee. Simply inform us in advance if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we receive a guidebook or a map with the greatest areas to explore on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to see and camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to visit any beach front for camping?
You can drive up to any beach, but you should only put up your camp in designated camping sites. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We will provide you with a list of the greatest locations to explore and also to camp in. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or can we just go to official camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You can only camp in official locations with secured camping permits. The fee is roughly $3 per night in many Kauai county parks, but private campsites could be a bit more. One advantage of these campgrounds is that you will have total access to amenities, including showers, restrooms & picnic dining tables. Please keep in mind that if you decide to camp on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is a good idea to organize your Kauai camping permits prior to your arrival. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your licenses on the internet and also in person in the respective office.
If you decide to stay at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you may obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Non-residents must pay three dollars per night up-front. Payment methods accepted with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. However, it isn’t necessary to reserve your camping licenses before your planned arrival. You could also obtain them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?
No matter if you choose to stay at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to go to a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to receive your permits. Permits can be obtained at the license offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given on the spot.
