Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any age limits to rent from you?

We prefer to work with clients who are 25 years and above due to our insurance coverage restrictions. On the other hand, based upon your circumstances, whenever possible, we strive to be flexible.

In case you are below 25 years, consider checking in with your insurer to find out if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.

Are your roof top tents family friendly?

Indeed! Please keep in mind that using our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb up a small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we also offer an additional camping tent with each of our packages which you may put up on the ground. This could be more comfortable for you and also your children.

How many individuals can your camping vehicles fit?

Our camping vehicles sleep three individuals maximum, though in case there are more within your party, we do provide an extra camping tent, too. With this, we can easily allow for as much as 5 people. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.

Can you provide surfboards?

Certainly, we provide surfboards & boogie boards as well as fins upon request for a fee. Just let us know beforehand if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we receive a travel guide or perhaps a map with the best places to explore on Kauai?

Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to visit and go camping on Kauai.

Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ

Can I head to any beach front to camp?

You could go to any beach, nevertheless, you can only put up your camp in designated camping grounds. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We will provide you with a list of the top places to check out and also to camp in. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or are we just able to go to designated camping sites? If so, how much is the fee?

No, wild camping isn’t allowed in Kauai. You can only go camping in official locations with secured camping permits. The charge is roughly $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county parks, but private camping grounds may be a bit more. One advantage of these campgrounds is that you have complete access to amenities, such as restrooms, showers and picnic tables. Please keep in mind that if you decide to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping permits prior to your arrival. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can get your permits online and also in person in the respective office.

If you choose to stay at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you can request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.

Non-residents have to pay 3 dollars per night beforehand. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are money orders & cashier’s checks. But it’s not absolutely necessary to book your camping permits prior to your arrival. You could also get them at the designated permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

No matter if you decide to camp at a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to get your permits. You might get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them right away.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
