Commonly Asked Questions
What is the minimum age for renting from you?
We try to work with clients who are actually twenty-five years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. Nevertheless, depending on your needs, whenever possible, we strive to be flexible.
If you are younger than 25 years, try contacting your insurance company to determine if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.
Are your rooftop tents kids friendly?
Certainly! Please keep in mind that using our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb up a small ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we also offer an additional tent with every package which you could put up on the ground. This can be much more comfortable for both you and your young children.
What is the maximum capacity of your trucks?
The camping trucks sleep 3 people maximum, though in case there are more within your group, we do offer an extra camping tent, as well. With this, we can easily fit about 5 individuals. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.
Are you offering surfboards?
Absolutely yes, our company offers both surfboards & boogie boards and fins upon request for a small fee. Just let us know beforehand if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we get a travel guide or a map with the greatest areas to check out on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to see & camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Details About Camping Permits
Am I able to go to any beach front to camp?
You can go to any beach, however, you can only put up your camp in designated camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the usual procedure. We will provide you with a list of the best locations to explore and also to camp in. Please remember that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or are we only able to go to official camping sites? If so, how much is the charge?
No, wild camping is not allowed on the island of Kauai. You can only camp in designated areas with a valid camping permit. The associated fee is around $3 per night stay in most Kauai county campgrounds, though private campsites could be a little more. One advantage of these camping grounds is that you have total access to amenities, such as showers, bathrooms and picnic kitchen tables. Please remember that if you opt to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is a better to obtain your Kauai camping permits prior to your arrival. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your permits online and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you choose to stay at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
In advance, the fees are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders & cashier’s checks. However, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping permits prior to your arrival. You can also get them at the designated permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
Whether you decide to stay at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite some time to receive your permits. You might get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will receive them immediately.
