FAQs

What is the minimum age to rent from you?

We would rather like to work with customers who are 25 years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. However, based upon your needs, whenever possible, we strive to be accommodating.

If you are below 25 years, consider checking in with your insurance provider to determine if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.

Are you able to accommodate families who have kids?

Indeed! Please note that using our rooftop campers you would need to climb a small ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we provide an extra tent with each of our packages which you can easily set up on the ground beside the camper vehicle. This can be more comfortable for you and also your young ones.

What is the maximum capacity of your camping trucks?

We could fit 3 individuals maximum, although in case there are more within your party, we do offer an additional camping tent, too. With this, we are able to accommodate about five people. All of our trucks have 5 seatbelts.

Are you able to provide surfboards?

Certainly, we offer both surfboards and boogie boards and fins on request for a small fee. Just inform us beforehand if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we get a guide book or a map with the greatest hiking trails and beaches to explore on Kauai?

Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to check out & go camping on Kauai.

Perfect Places For Camping Out On Kauai & Details About Camping Permits

Can I visit any beach front for camping?

You can go to any beach, however, you should only set up your camp in designated camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We’ll supply you with a list of the greatest places to visit and to go camping. Please remember that driving on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” allowed or are we just able to visit official camping sites? If so, what is the fee?

No, wild camping is not allowed in Kauai. You can only camp in specified areas with a current camping permit. The charge is about $3 per night stay in most Kauai county parks, but private campsites may be a little more. One particular advantage of these camping grounds is that you have full access to amenities, such as showers, restrooms and picnic dining tables. Please note that if you decide to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?

It is definitely a good idea to organize your Kauai camping license before your trip. For most private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can get your licenses on the internet and also in person in the respective office.

If you opt to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you can obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.

Up-front, the fees are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping permits before your planned arrival. You can also get them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.

How long does it take to get the camping permits?

Whether you decide to camp at a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to camp at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to get your permits. You may opt to get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the various permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them on the spot.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
