FAQs

Is there a minimum age to rent from you?

We prefer to do business with customers who are actually 25 years and older due to our insurance policy restrictions. On the other hand, based on your needs, whenever possible, we try to be flexible.

If you are younger than 25 years, consider checking in with your insurance provider to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.

Could you accommodate families with kids?

Absolutely! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb up a small ladder. If this is an issue, we offer an extra camping tent with all of our packages which you can set up on the ground beside the camping truck. This may be much more comfortable for both you as well as your kids.

What is the max. capacity of your trucks?

Our camping trucks fit three people maximum, though in case there are more in your party, we do offer an additional tent, too. With this, we can easily accommodate about five people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.

Are you offering surfboards?

Absolutely yes, we offer surfboards and boogie boards as well as fins on request for a small fee. Simply let us know beforehand if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we receive a guide or even a map with the greatest beaches & hiking trails to check out on Kauai?

Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to check out & camp out on Kauai.

Perfect Spots For Camping Out On Kauai & Information Regarding Camping Permits

Can I go to any beach front to camp?

You could go to any beach, but you can only set up your camp in designated camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We’ll provide you with a list of the top places to visit and to go camping. Please remember that driving on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or can we just visit designated camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?

No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in designated locations with a valid camping permit. The charge is around $3 per night in most Kauai county parks, though private camp sites could be a little more. One particular advantage of these campsites is that you have full access to amenities, including bathrooms, showers & picnic dining tables. Please keep in mind that if you decide to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

What campsites do you suggest with the rooftop tent?

  • Kōkeʻe State Park (need camping permit): Kokee Rd, Hwy 550, Kekaha, HI 96752
  • Sugi Grove Campground (need camping permit): Access from MohihiCamp 10 Road, starting 100 yards past Kōkeʻe State Park headquarters along Highway 550. Latitude 22.13 N, Longitude -159.622 W.

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is a better to organize your Kauai camping permits prior to your arrival. For most private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can get your licenses online and also in person in the designated office.

If you choose to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you may obtain permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.

Non-residents have to pay 3 dollars per night up-front. Accepted payment methods with this application are cashier’s checks and money orders. However, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping permits before your planned arrival. You can also obtain them at the various permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

No matter if you decide to camp at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to go to a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to get your permits. Permits can be bought at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are issued on-the-spot.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
