FAQs

What’s the minimum age to rent from you?

We would rather like to do business with customers who are twenty-five years and above due to our insurance coverage restrictions. However, based upon your situation, whenever we can, we try to be flexible.

In case you are below twenty-five, consider checking with your insurance company to see if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.

Are you able to accommodate families who have kids?

Indeed! Please keep in mind that using our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb up a little ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we also offer an extra tent with every package which you can set up on the ground beside the camper truck. This could be more convenient for both you and also your young children.

How many individuals can your camper vehicles fit?

We can accommodate 3 people maximum, though if there are more in your group, we do provide an extra camping tent, as well. With this, we are able to allow for about five people. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.

Are you offering surfboards?

Certainly, we offer surfboards & boogie boards as well as fins on request for a fee. Just tell us up-front if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we receive a guide or even a map with the best locations to explore on Kauai?

Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to see & go camping on Kauai.

Kauai Camping Guide & Information About Camping Permits

Am I able to go to any beach for camping?

You could drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you should only put up your camp in official camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the usual procedure. We’ll supply you with a list of the best places to visit and to go camping. Please note that driving on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.

Are we allowed to camp in the wild or are we just able to visit official camping grounds? If so, how much will it cost?

No, wild camping isn’t allowed on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in specified locations with a valid camping permit. The associated fee is about $3 per night in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private camp sites could be a bit more. The good thing about these campsites is that you will have total access to facilities, such as showers, washrooms & picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you choose to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Where can I park and sleep with my roof top tent truck?

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is a good idea to get your Kauai camping license before your journey. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits online and also on-the-spot in the designated office.

If you choose to camp at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you can obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.

Non-residents must pay three dollars per night beforehand. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are money orders and cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, you don’t have to reserve your camping permits prior to your arrival. You can also obtain them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.

How much time will it take to get the camping permits?

If you choose to camp at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to camp at a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite some time to obtain your permits. Permits can be bought at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are issued immediately.

We at Kauai Rooftop Campers are proud to serve the entire Garden Island Kauai – always with Aloha!

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
