Commonly Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We try to work with customers who are 25 years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. But, based upon your circumstances, whenever possible, we always strive to be accommodating.
If you are below 25 years, consider contacting your insurance provider to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.
Can you accommodate adults who have children?
Certainly! Please note that with our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb up one small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we also offer an extra camping tent with each of our packages which you can easily put up on the ground next to the camper vehicle. This can be much more comfortable for you and your young children.
How many people can your camper vehicles accommodate?
Our roof top tent camping trucks sleep 3 people at most, though in case there are more in your party, we do offer an extra tent, as well. With this, we can easily accommodate up to five people. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.
Are you offering surfboards?
Absolutely yes, our company offers surfboards & boogie boards and fins on request for a small fee. Simply inform us up-front if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we receive a travel guide or a map with the best beaches and hiking trails to check out on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to see & camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to head to any beach to camp?
You can go to any beach, however, you should only set up your camp in official camping sites. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We will provide you with a list of the best places to explore and also to go camping. Please note that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” permitted or can we just visit designated camping sites? If so, what is the fee?
No, wild camping is not allowed on the island of Kauai. You can only go camping in designated locations with a valid camping permit. The charge is roughly $3 per night stay in many Kauai county parks, but private camping grounds may be a little more. One advantage of these camping grounds is that you will have complete access to amenities, like washrooms, showers and picnic dining tables. Please remember that if you decide to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?
It’s a good idea to get your Kauai camping permits before your arrival. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can get your permits online and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you decide to camp at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you can ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
Up-front, the charges are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. However, it’s not necessary to book your camping licenses before your arrival. You could also obtain them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
No matter whether you choose to go to a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to camp at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite a while to get your permits. Permits can be obtained at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are issued on the spot.
