Below are Some Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum age to rent from you?
We try to do business with clients who are actually twenty-five years and above because of our insurance policy restrictions. On the other hand, depending on your needs, whenever we can, we always try to be flexible.
In case you are younger than twenty-five, consider checking with your insurer to see if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are you able to accommodate adults who have kids?
Indeed! Please note that with our rooftop campers you’ll have to climb up a little ladder. If this is a problem, we offer an additional tent with every package which you can easily set up on the ground. This can be more convenient for you as well as your children.
How many people can your camper vehicles fit?
We are able to fit 3 individuals maximum, though in case there are more within your party, we do offer an additional tent, too. With this, we are able to accommodate up to five people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Absolutely yes, Kauai Rooftop Campers offers surfboards & boogie boards as well as fins on request for a small fee. Just let us know up-front if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we get a guide book or a map with the greatest beaches and hiking trails to visit on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to see & camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Details About Camping Permits
Can I head to any beach for camping?
You can go to any beach, but you should only put up your camp in designated camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We’ll supply you with a list of the greatest places to explore and also to camp in. Please be aware that driving on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.
Are we allowed to camp in the wild or can we just visit designated camping grounds? If so, what is the fee?
No, wild camping is not allowed in Kauai. You should only camp in specific locations with secured camping permits. The charge is roughly $3 per night stay in most Kauai county parks, but private campsites may be a bit more. The good thing about these campgrounds is that you will have full access to amenities, like showers, restrooms and picnic tables. Please be aware that if you choose to camp on the county campsites, you are only permitted to set up the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It is definitely a better to organize your Kauai camping license before your trip. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can get your permits online and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you opt to stay at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you may obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
In advance, the charges are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are cashier’s checks as well as money orders. However, it is not necessary to reserve your camping licenses prior to your arrival. You can also obtain them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
How much time will it take to get the camping permits?
No matter if you choose to stay at a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to obtain your permits. You might receive your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the designated permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will get them right away.
