Below are Some Commonly Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We prefer to work with clients who are twenty-five years and older due to our insurance coverage restrictions. However, based upon your circumstances, whenever possible, we try to be flexible.
In case you are younger than 25 years, try contacting your insurer to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are your roof top tents family friendly?
Certainly! Please note that using our rooftop campers you’ll have to climb a little ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we provide an extra camping tent with each of our packages which you may set up on the ground. This can be more suitable for you and your young ones.
What is the max. capacity of your camper vehicles?
We can accommodate 3 people maximum, although if there are more in your group, we do provide an additional tent, as well. With this, we can easily fit up to 5 people. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Certainly, we provide both surfboards & boogie boards and fins upon request for a small fee. Simply tell us beforehand if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we receive a guide or a map with the greatest places to visit on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to check out & go camping on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I head to any beach to camp?
You may go to any beach, but you should only put up your camp in designated camping grounds. This is the standard practice here on Kauai. We will provide you with a list of the ideal locations to explore and also to camp in. Please note that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” permitted or can we just visit designated camping grounds? If so, how much will it cost?
No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You may only camp in designated locations with secured camping permits. The fee is around $3 per night stay in most Kauai county parks, but private campsites may be a bit more. One advantage of these campsites is that you have full access to amenities, such as bathrooms, showers and picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you opt to camp on the county campsites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is a better to organize your Kauai camping permits prior to your arrival. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your permits online and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you choose to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you may ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Non-residents must pay three dollars per night beforehand. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are bank checks as well as money orders. But it isn’t necessary to reserve your camping permits prior to your planned arrival. You may also get them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
How much time does it take to obtain the camping permits?
If you choose to stay at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to stay at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite some time to receive your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are given right away.
