FAQs
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We prefer to work with customers who are 25 years and older because of our insurance coverage restrictions. Nevertheless, based on your needs, whenever possible, we always try to be accommodating.
In case you are below twenty-five, try checking in with your insurance provider to see if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are your rooftop tents kids friendly?
Indeed! Please note that with our rooftop campers you will need to climb up a small ladder. If this is an issue, we also offer an additional camping tent with each of our packages which you can set up on the ground. This may be much more comfortable for you and also your young children.
How many people can your camper trucks fit?
The roof top tent camping trucks sleep three individuals maximum, though in case there are more in your group, we do have an extra tent, as well. With this, we can easily allow for up to five individuals. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Certainly, we provide both surfboards & boogie boards as well as fins upon request for a small fee. Simply let us know up-front if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we get a guide book or even a map with the greatest areas to visit on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to visit and go camping on Kauai.
Top Spots For Camping Out On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to go to any beach front to camp?
You can drive up to any beach, but you should only put up your camp in designated camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the usual procedure. We’ll provide you with a list of the top locations to check out and to go camping. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or can we only go to official camping sites? If so, what is the charge?
No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You may only camp in specific locations with secured camping permits. The charge is around $3 per night stay in many Kauai county parks, but private campgrounds may be a little more. One particular advantage of these campsites is that you will have complete access to amenities, like washrooms, showers and picnic kitchen tables. Please note that if you choose to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only permitted to set up the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It is a better to get your Kauai camping license prior to your arrival. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your licenses on the internet and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you opt to camp at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Up-front, the costs are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. But you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping permits prior to your planned arrival. You can also obtain them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?
No matter whether you decide to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to go to a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite a while to receive your permits. You might get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them on the spot.
