Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any age limits to rent from you?
We try to work with customers who are actually 25 years and older due to our insurance policy restrictions. Nevertheless, based upon your situation, whenever possible, we always try to be flexible.
If you are younger than 25 years, consider checking in with your insurance provider to find out if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.
Are your rooftop tents family friendly?
Certainly! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb up one small ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we also provide an additional tent with every package which you can set up on the ground. This may be more comfortable for you and your young children.
What is the max. capacity of your camping vehicles?
We could fit 3 people at most, although if there are more within your group, we do provide an additional camping tent, as well. With this, we can easily allow for up to five people. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.
Can you provide surfboards?
Yes, our company offers surfboards & boogie boards as well as fins on request for a fee. Just tell us up-front if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we get a guide or perhaps a map with the greatest hiking trails & beaches to visit on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to check out & go camping on Kauai.
Greatest Spots For Camping On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I go to any beach for camping?
You may drive up to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in designated camping grounds. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We’ll supply you with a list of the top places to explore and also to camp in. Please remember that driving on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Are we allowed to camp in the wild or are we only able to go to official camping grounds? If so, how much is the charge?
No, wild camping isn’t allowed on the island of Kauai. You should only camp in designated locations with secured camping permits. The fee is around $3 per night in many Kauai county campgrounds, though private campsites could be a bit more. The good thing about these camping grounds is that you will have full access to facilities, such as showers, restrooms and picnic dining tables. Please remember that if you decide to camp on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to set up the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?
It is a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping permits before your journey. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your permits online and also in person in the respective office.
If you opt to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you can request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Non-residents have to pay 3 dollars per night up-front. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are cashier’s checks and money orders. But you don’t necessarily have to book your camping licenses prior to your arrival. You can also obtain them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
How much time does it take to obtain the camping permits?
If you decide to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to stay at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to get your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given on the spot.
