Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any age limits to rent from you?
We would rather like to work with customers who are actually twenty-five years and above due to our insurance policy restrictions. But, based upon your situation, whenever we can, we strive to be accommodating.
If you are younger than twenty-five, try checking with your insurance company to see if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are your roof top tents kids friendly?
Yes! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb up one small ladder. If this is a concern, we also offer an extra tent with each of our packages which you can easily set up on the ground. This could be much more comfortable for you and your young ones.
How many individuals can your camping trucks fit?
Our camping vehicles fit 3 people at most, though if there are more within your party, we do have an extra camping tent, too. With this, we are able to fit as much as five people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
Do you provide surfboards?
Certainly, we offer both surfboards and boogie boards and fins on request for a fee. Simply let us know in advance if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we receive a guidebook or even a map with the best hiking trails & beaches to explore on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to see & camp out on Kauai.
Best Spots For Camping Out On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I head to any beach front to camp?
You may go to any beach, but you should only put up your camp in official camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the standard practice. We will give you a list of the best places to explore and also to camp in. Please remember that driving on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Are we allowed to camp in the wild or can we just go to official camping sites? If so, how much is the fee?
No, wild camping is not allowed on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in official locations with a current camping permit. The associated fee is approximately $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private campgrounds may be a bit more. One advantage of these camping grounds is that you have full access to amenities, like showers, bathrooms & picnic dining tables. Please note that if you opt to camp on the county campsites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?
It is a good idea to organize your Kauai camping license before your journey. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may get your licenses online and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you choose to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
In advance, the charges are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are money orders and cashier’s checks. But it’s not necessary to reserve your camping permits prior to your arrival. You can also get them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?
Whether you decide to camp at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to stay at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite a while to receive your permits. Permits can be bought at the permit offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are issued on-the-spot.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
