Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to visit any beach for camping?
You may drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you can only set up your camp in official camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We’ll supply you with a list of the greatest places to check out and also to go camping. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Are we permitted to camp in the wild or are we only able to go to designated camping grounds? If so, how much will it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You can only go camping in specified areas with a valid camping permit. The fee is about $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, though private campgrounds may be a bit more. The good thing about these campgrounds is that you will have complete access to amenities, including showers, restrooms & picnic kitchen tables. Please keep in mind that if you opt to camp on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to set up the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?
It is a good idea to organize your Kauai camping permits prior to your trip. For most private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your licenses on the internet and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you choose to stay at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.
Non-residents need to pay 3 dollars per night up-front. Accepted payment methods with this application are bank checks and also money orders. But it isn’t absolutely necessary to book your camping permits prior to your arrival. You could also obtain them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
How long does it take to obtain the camping permits?
If you choose to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to get your permits. You might receive your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the designated permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them immediately.
