Commonly Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We prefer to do business with customers who are twenty-five years and above due to our insurance policy restrictions. On the other hand, depending on your needs, whenever possible, we try to be accommodating.
In case you are younger than 25 years, consider contacting your insurer to find out whether you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.
Are your rooftop tents family friendly?
Yes! Please note that with our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb a little ladder. If this is a problem, we offer an extra camping tent with each of our packages which you can set up on the ground. This can be more convenient for you and your young children.
What is the max. capacity of your trucks?
The camping vehicles sleep three individuals at most, although if there are more within your party, we do have an additional tent, too. With this, we can easily fit as much as 5 people. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.
Do you provide surfboards?
Yes, we provide both surfboards and boogie boards and fins on request for a small fee. Simply let us know in advance if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we get a guide or even a map with the greatest locations to explore on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to check out & go camping on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to head to any beach for camping?
You can go to any beach, nevertheless, you should only set up your camp in official camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the standard practice. We will supply you with a list of the best places to check out and to camp in. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” permitted or can we just visit official camping sites? If so, what is the fee?
No, wild camping isn’t allowed on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in official locations with secured camping permits. The associated fee is roughly $3 per night stay in many Kauai county parks, but private camp sites may be a bit more. The good thing about these campgrounds is that you have total access to amenities, such as showers, restrooms and picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you decide to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?
It is a better to obtain your Kauai camping license before your trip. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may get your licenses on the internet and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you decide to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you can ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.
Non-residents must pay three dollars per night in advance. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are cashier’s checks and also money orders. But it’s not absolutely necessary to reserve your camping permits before your arrival. You may also obtain them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
If you decide to camp at a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to go to a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite a while to receive your permits. Permits can be bought at the license offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given immediately.
