Below are Some Commonly Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We try to do business with customers who are twenty-five years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. Nevertheless, depending on your situation, whenever possible, we strive to be flexible.
If you are below twenty-five, consider contacting your insurer to see if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.
Are your rooftop tents family friendly?
Yes! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb a little ladder. If this is a problem, we offer an additional tent with every package which you could set up on the ground. This could be more convenient for you as well as your young children.
What is the max. capacity of your vehicles?
We are able to fit 3 people at most, though if there are more in your party, we do provide an additional camping tent, too. With this, we are able to fit about five people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
Are you able to provide surfboards?
Absolutely yes, our company offers surfboards and boogie boards and fins on request for a small fee. Simply inform us up-front if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we get a guidebook or perhaps a map with the best hiking trails and beaches to visit on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to check out and camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I visit any beach front for camping?
You could go to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in official camping sites. This is the standard practice here on Kauai. We will supply you with a list of the greatest locations to explore and to go camping. Please be aware that driving on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.
Are we permitted to camp in the wild or are we just able to visit official camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You should only go camping in specific areas with a current camping permit. The associated fee is roughly $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, though private camp sites could be a little more. One advantage of these camping grounds is that you will have complete access to amenities, such as showers, washrooms and picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you decide to go camping on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.
What camping grounds do you recommend with the rooftop tent?
- Kōkeʻe State Park (need camping permit): Kokee Rd, Hwy 550, Kekaha, HI 96752

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is definitely a good idea to organize your Kauai camping license before your trip. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits on the internet and also in person in the respective office.
If you decide to stay at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you can request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
Up-front, the charges are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are bank checks and money orders. Nevertheless, you don’t necessarily have to book your camping licenses before your arrival. You could also obtain them at the various permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.
How long does it take to get the camping permits?
Whether you decide to go to a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to camp at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite some time to get your permits. Permits can be obtained at the license offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given on the spot.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
