Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the minimum age for renting from you?
We prefer to work with customers who are actually twenty-five years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. However, depending on your situation, whenever possible, we strive to be accommodating.
If you are younger than twenty-five, consider checking with your insurer to see if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Can you accommodate adults who have children?
Absolutely! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb a little ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we also offer an extra tent with each of our packages which you can put up on the ground. This could be more suitable for both you and your little ones.
What is the max. capacity of your trucks?
The camping trucks fit three people at most, though if there are more in your party, we do have an extra tent, too. With this, we are able to fit about 5 individuals. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.
Are you offering surfboards?
Yes, our company offers surfboards and boogie boards and also fins upon request for a small fee. Simply let us know beforehand if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we get a guide book or perhaps a map with the best locations to check out on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to see & camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I go to any beach front to camp?
You may drive up to any beach, however, you should only set up your camp in official camping sites. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We’ll give you a list of the top locations to explore and also to go camping. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Are we permitted to camp in the wild or are we just able to visit designated camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t allowed on the island of Kauai. You should only camp in designated areas with a current camping permit. The associated fee is about $3 per night in many Kauai county parks, though private campsites could be a bit more. One particular advantage of these campgrounds is that you have full access to amenities, like showers, washrooms & picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you decide to camp on the county campsites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?
It’s a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping permits prior to your trip. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits on the internet and also in person in the designated office.
If you choose to stay at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you can obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Up-front, the charges are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this application are bank checks as well as money orders. But you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping permits prior to your planned arrival. You can also get them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
Whether you choose to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to camp at a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to receive your permits. Permits can be bought at the license offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are issued right away.
