Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We prefer to do business with clients who are twenty-five years and above because of our insurance coverage restrictions. Having said that, based upon your circumstances, whenever possible, we always try to be flexible.
If you are below 25 years, consider checking with your insurance company to find out whether you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.
Could you accommodate adults who have kids?
Certainly! Please note that with our rooftop campers you’ll have to climb a small ladder. If this sounds like an issue, we provide an additional camping tent with each of our packages which you can easily set up on the ground. This can be more convenient for you as well as your children.
What is the max. capacity of your trucks?
The camping vehicles fit three individuals at most, though in case there are more within your party, we do offer an extra tent, too. With this, we can easily accommodate as much as 5 people. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.
Are you able to provide surfboards?
Certainly, we provide surfboards and boogie boards and fins upon request for a small fee. Simply inform us beforehand if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we receive a guidebook or perhaps a map with the best places to check out on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to visit and camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Information Regarding Camping Permits
Am I able to go to any beach for camping?
You could drive up to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in official camping sites. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We’ll provide you with a list of the top locations to visit and to camp in. Please note that driving on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or are we only able to visit designated camping grounds? If so, what is the cost?
No, wild camping isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in official locations with secured camping permits. The associated fee is about $3 per night stay in most Kauai county campgrounds, but private campgrounds could be a bit more. The good thing about these campsites is that you will have full access to amenities, including showers, restrooms and picnic tables. Please be aware that if you choose to camp on the county campsites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It is a better to get your Kauai camping permits before your arrival. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you can get your licenses on the internet and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you opt to camp at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you can request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Up-front, the costs are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are money orders & cashier’s checks. However, it’s not absolutely necessary to book your camping licenses prior to your arrival. You can also get them at the various permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.
How much time does it take to obtain the camping permits?
If you choose to stay at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to stay at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite some time to receive your permits. Permits can be obtained at the license offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given immediately.
