FAQs

Are there any age limits to rent from you?

We would rather like to do business with clients who are actually 25 years and older due to our insurance coverage restrictions. However, depending on your needs, whenever possible, we strive to be accommodating.

In case you are younger than twenty-five, try checking with your insurance company to determine if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.

Are your roof top tents kids friendly?

Of course! Please note that using our rooftop campers you will need to climb up one small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we provide an extra camping tent with every package which you can set up on the ground beside your camping vehicle. This could be more convenient for you as well as your young ones.

What is the maximum capacity of your camper trucks?

We are able to accommodate 3 individuals maximum, though in case there are more in your party, we do offer an extra camping tent, as well. With this, we are able to accommodate about 5 people. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.

What about surfboards?

Absolutely yes, we provide surfboards and boogie boards and fins on request for a fee. Simply let us know up-front if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we get a guide or even a map with the best beaches & hiking trails to check out on Kauai?

Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to visit and camp out on Kauai.

Greatest Places For Camping Outdoors On Kauai & Specifics About Camping Permits

Am I able to head to any beach for camping?

You can go to any beach, nevertheless, you can only set up your camp in official camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We’ll provide you with a list of the greatest locations to visit and also to camp in. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or can we only visit designated camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?

No, wild camping isn’t allowed on the island of Kauai. You should only go camping in official locations with a valid camping permit. The fee is around $3 per night stay in most Kauai county campgrounds, though private camping grounds may be a bit more. One particular advantage of these campgrounds is that you will have complete access to facilities, such as showers, bathrooms and picnic dining tables. Please be aware that if you choose to camp on the county campsites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is definitely a good idea to organize your Kauai camping license prior to your arrival. For most private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your permits online and also in person in the designated office.

If you opt to stay at a county campground and use a ground tent, you can ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.

Up-front, the costs are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are money orders and cashier’s checks. However, you don’t necessarily have to book your camping permits prior to your planned arrival. You may also obtain them at the various permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.

How much time does it take to obtain the camping permits?

No matter if you choose to camp at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to go to a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite some time to obtain your permits. Permits can be bought at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given on-the-spot.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
