Here are Some Commonly Asked Questions

What’s the minimum age for renting from you?

We try to do business with clients who are actually twenty-five years and above due to our insurance coverage restrictions. But, based on your needs, whenever we can, we strive to be flexible.

In case you are below twenty-five, consider checking in with your insurer to determine if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.

Could you accommodate adults who have children?

Indeed! Please note that using our rooftop campers you will need to climb up a small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we also offer an extra tent with all of our packages which you could set up on the ground. This may be more suitable for you as well as your children.

How many individuals can your camping vehicles accommodate?

We can fit 3 people at most, although in case there are more in your group, we do provide an extra tent, too. With this, we can easily allow for about five individuals. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.

Can you provide surfboards?

Certainly, we offer both surfboards & boogie boards as well as fins on request for a fee. Just let us know in advance if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we receive a guide book or perhaps a map with the greatest hiking trails and beaches to check out on Kauai?

Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to check out and go camping on Kauai.

Finest Places For Camping Out On Kauai & Specifics About Camping Permits

Can I go to any beach for camping?

You can go to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in designated camping grounds. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We’ll give you a list of the top locations to explore and also to go camping. Please remember that driving on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.

Are we permitted to camp in the wild or are we only able to visit designated camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?

No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You should only go camping in specific areas with secured camping permits. The fee is approximately $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county parks, though private campgrounds could be a bit more. The good thing about these camping grounds is that you have full access to amenities, including showers, bathrooms and picnic dining tables. Please remember that if you decide to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

What campsites do you suggest with the rooftop camping tent?

  • Kōkeʻe State Park (need camping permit): Kokee Rd, Hwy 550, Kekaha, HI 96752

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?

It is a better to obtain your Kauai camping permits before your arrival. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you can get your licenses on the internet and also in person in the respective office.

If you opt to stay at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you can ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.

Non-residents need to pay 3 dollars per night up-front. Accepted payment methods with this application are cashier’s checks and also money orders. Nevertheless, it is not necessary to reserve your camping permits before your arrival. You can also get them at the various permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

No matter if you choose to stay at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to stay at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite some time to get your permits. You may opt to obtain your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the designated permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them on the spot.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
