Here are Some Commonly Asked Questions

Is there an age requirement to rent from you?

We try to work with customers who are actually 25 years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. But, based on your situation, whenever possible, we try to be flexible.

In case you are below 25 years, try checking in with your insurance company to find out whether you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.

Are your roof top tent campers kids friendly?

Of course! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop campers you will need to climb up a small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we also offer an extra camping tent with every package which you may put up on the ground next to your camping truck. This can be more comfortable for both you as well as your kids.

What is the maximum capacity of your camper vehicles?

The camper trucks sleep 3 people maximum, though in case there are more within your party, we do offer an additional camping tent, too. With this, we can easily allow for as much as five people. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.

Do you provide surfboards?

Certainly, we provide both surfboards and boogie boards as well as fins upon request for a small fee. Simply inform us in advance if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we get a guide book or even a map with the nicest hiking trails & beaches to explore on Kauai?

Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to visit and camp out on Kauai.

Perfect Spots For Camping Outdoors On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ

Can I visit any beach to camp?

You may go to any beach, but you can only put up your camp in designated camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the usual procedure. We’ll provide you with a list of the greatest places to explore and also to camp in. Please note that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or are we just able to visit official camping sites? If so, how much will it cost?

No, wild camping is not permitted in Kauai. You can only go camping in designated areas with secured camping permits. The fee is around $3 per night in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private camping grounds may be a bit more. The good thing about these camping grounds is that you have total access to facilities, including bathrooms, showers and picnic tables. Please keep in mind that if you decide to go camping on the county campsites, you are only permitted to set up the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is definitely a good idea to get your Kauai camping license prior to your arrival. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you can secure your licenses online and also in person in the designated office.

If you opt to stay at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you may request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.

Up-front, the costs are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are money orders & cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, it is not necessary to reserve your camping permits before your arrival. You can also get them at the various permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.

How long does it take to get the camping permits?

Whether you choose to stay at a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to go to a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite some time to receive your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are given on-the-spot.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
