FAQs
What is the minimum age for renting from you?
We try to do business with clients who are twenty-five years and above because of our insurance coverage restrictions. Nevertheless, depending on your needs, whenever we can, we try to be flexible.
In case you are younger than twenty-five, try checking with your insurer to find out if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are your roof top tents family friendly?
Certainly! Please note that using our rooftop campers you will need to climb up one small ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we also provide an additional tent with every package which you may set up on the ground. This may be more comfortable for you and your young ones.
How many individuals can your camper trucks fit?
We are able to fit three people maximum, though in case there are more within your party, we do offer an extra tent, too. With this, we are able to fit as much as 5 individuals. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Absolutely yes, Kauai Rooftop Campers offers both surfboards and boogie boards and fins upon request for a fee. Just tell us beforehand if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we receive a guide or perhaps a map with the nicest areas to check out on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to see & camp out on Kauai.
Top Spots For Camping Out On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I go to any beach front to camp?
You could drive up to any beach, however, you can only set up your camp in designated camping sites. This is the standard practice here on Kauai. We’ll provide you with a list of the greatest places to check out and to go camping. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” permitted or can we just go to designated camping sites? If so, how much is the fee?
No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You should only camp in designated locations with secured camping permits. The associated fee is about $3 per night in the majority of Kauai county parks, but private campsites may be a bit more. One advantage of these campsites is that you have total access to facilities, like showers, restrooms & picnic kitchen tables. Please note that if you choose to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is definitely a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping permits before your trip. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may secure your permits on the internet and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you choose to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you may obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
Non-residents must pay three dollars per night up-front. Accepted payment methods with this application are bank checks as well as money orders. However, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping licenses before your arrival. You may also get them at the designated permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?
If you decide to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to camp at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to obtain your permits. You might receive your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the designated permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will get them immediately.
