Commonly Asked Questions
Are there any age restrictions to rent from you?
We would rather like to do business with customers who are actually 25 years and older due to our insurance policy restrictions. But, depending on your situation, whenever possible, we always strive to be flexible.
If you are below 25 years, consider checking with your insurer to find out if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.
Are your roof top tent camping trucks family friendly?
Of course! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb one small ladder. If this is a problem, we provide an extra tent with each package which you could set up on the ground beside the camper vehicle. This may be more convenient for you as well as your little ones.
How many individuals can your camper vehicles fit?
We are able to accommodate three individuals maximum, although in case there are more in your party, we do provide an extra tent, as well. With this, we are able to fit about five individuals. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.
Are you able to provide surfboards?
Absolutely yes, our company offers surfboards & boogie boards and fins on request for a fee. Just let us know up-front if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we receive a guide book or perhaps a map with the best areas to visit on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to see and go camping on Kauai.
Ideal Places For Camping Outdoors On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to go to any beach front to camp?
You may drive up to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in designated camping sites. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We’ll supply you with a list of the top places to explore and to camp in. Please remember that driving on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.
Are we permitted to camp in the wild or are we only able to go to official camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in specified locations with secured camping permits. The charge is around $3 per night in many Kauai county parks, though private campsites may be a bit more. One particular advantage of these camping grounds is that you will have complete access to amenities, like restrooms, showers and picnic kitchen tables. Please remember that if you decide to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?
It’s a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping license before your trip. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits online and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you opt to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you can obtain permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Up-front, the charges are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. However, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping licenses before your arrival. You can also obtain them at the various permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
Whether you choose to go to a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to camp at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite a while to obtain your permits. Permits can be bought at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are given on the spot.
