Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We would rather like to work with clients who are 25 years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. Having said that, depending on your circumstances, whenever possible, we try to be accommodating.
In case you are younger than 25 years, consider checking with your insurer to see if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.
Would you be able to accommodate families with kids?
Certainly! Please note that using our rooftop campers you’ll have to climb up one small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we offer an additional camping tent with all of our packages which you can easily put up on the ground beside your camping truck. This can be more convenient for you and also your kids.
What is the maximum capacity of your trucks?
The camping vehicles fit three people at most, though if there are more in your group, we do provide an additional tent, as well. With this, we can easily fit up to five people. All of our trucks have 5 seatbelts.
Do you offer surfboards?
Certainly, we provide both surfboards and boogie boards and also fins upon request for a fee. Just let us know in advance if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we receive a guidebook or perhaps a map with the greatest places to visit on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to visit & camp out on Kauai.
Finest Locations For Camping On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to head to any beach front for camping?
You could go to any beach, however, you can only set up your camp in official camping sites. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We will provide you with a list of the greatest places to check out and also to camp in. Please note that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or can we only go to official camping sites? If so, what is the cost?
No, wild camping isn’t allowed in Kauai. You should only go camping in designated locations with secured camping permits. The associated fee is approximately $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county campgrounds, though private campgrounds may be a bit more. One advantage of these camping grounds is that you have full access to facilities, such as showers, washrooms and picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you decide to camp on the county campsites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It’s a good idea to get your Kauai camping permits before your journey. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can get your permits on the internet and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you choose to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you can ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
Up-front, the charges are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are bank checks and money orders. However, it isn’t necessary to reserve your camping permits before your arrival. You could also get them at the different permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
If you choose to go to a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to obtain your permits. You may opt to get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the designated permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will get them immediately.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time
Los Angeles, CA
Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
